Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue led a statewide prayer for rain to alleviate the months-long drought plaguing the entire region.
But the clouds that looked so promising when the prayer began had dissipated by the end, and rays of sunshine broke forth on the land, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"We have not been good stewards of our land. We have not been good stewards of our water," Perdue said, according to the Journal-Constitution. "Lord, have mercy on your people, have mercy on us and grant us rain. Oh God, let rain fall on this land of Georgia."
