At least 2.7 million gallons of partially treated sewage spilled into San Francisco Bay from a water treatment plant on Thursday, according to officials. As a result, officials are warning against anyone touching the water for the time being.

The spill was caused by workers failing to turn on enough pumps to handle the increased flow during heavy storms this week. The sewage flowed unimpeded for at at least four hours.

The tides will soon clear the sewage from 28,000 Marin County homes out of the bay. But officials are also warning against eating fish from the bay by the city.
