The devilish Santa Ana winds that whipped up a frenzy of wildfire last month in California are coming back tonight, and will blow through the weekend, according to weather forecasts.
Last month, the fires, whipped up by the hot, dry winds, burned more than 600,000 acres, destroyed thousands of homes and killed several people.
The returning winds aren't expected to be as severe, according to the Los Angeles Times. This time, they won't blow as hard, and temperatures have dropped. But with low humidity, fires are still a critical risk.
Across the United States this year, 79,129 wildfires have burned 9,375,530 acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. That doesn't match last year's record total, but puts this year in line to rank second.
