Groundwater, rising as a result of nearby development, is threatening to erode some of the most important historical monuments made by humankind.

In Egypt, the Sphinx, pyramids and archaeological sites that have yet to be fully explored are flooding as a result of human activity nearby, including inadequate sewage treatment infrastructure, according to the Japan Economic Newswire.

This is only one example of environmental problems affecting the health of tourist destinations, historical sites and, as is the case here, some of the greatest wonders of the world.
