Typhoon Peipah, having been downgraded yesterday to a tropical depression, is making landfall in Vietnam, where 200 people have died in recent weeks from flooding.

By NASA's tally, it is the 27th tropical cyclone in that part of the world this year.

Vietnam has been hit by heavy rains, flooding and several cyclones in recent months.

Scientists still debate whether tropical cyclones are influenced by global warming, but the United Nations has warned that flooding is among the extreme weather events that will become more common due to global warming.
