Mets pitching ace Pedro Martinez and veteran outfielder Moises Alou made a pitch for help for their native Dominican Republic, which was ravaged by Hurricane Noel last week.

At least 84 deaths in the Dominican Republic were blamed on the storm, which hit harder than expected. Noel had originally been forecast to hit neighboring Haiti directly.

Some 25,000 people are still displaced, according to Newsday.

Martinez has aided his countrymen before, Newsday wrote, including after Hurricane George hit in 1998 and after severe flooding in 2004.

Relief-effort information can be found at Mets.com, LosMets.com or SNY.tv.
