Judges: Navy Must Not Harm Whales with Sonar

In Reversal, Court Sides with Endangered Species

Reversing an earlier court decision, a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday that the Navy must take care to avoid harming endangered whales that are sensitive to the sound waves produced by sonar, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Navy must negotiate protective measures with conservation groups before it undertakes nine training missions next year.
