Meet the Mets (and Greet Their Huge SUVs)

Spring Training Shows Off Gas Guzzlers

It's a light note in Newsday, but it's full of heavy crude oil.

The Mets (this news editor's favorite team) arrived for Spring Training in Port St. Lucie in an armada of big trucks and SUVs, the New York daily reported.

The Cadillac Escalade appears to be the preferred ride, and the undisputed king is the red custom job owned by second baseman Luis Castillo. This gleaming monster not only sits on 22-inch rims but is longer than any showroom model, and looks as if it could house the entire Mets roster - the 40-man, not the 25.

The Boston Red Sox may giving Fenway a green that goes beyond its signature Monster in left field, but Major League Baseball doesn't seem to have caught up with Hollywood celebrity culture when it comes to driving green.
