Madonna, according to the Fashion Spot, will grace the May cover of Vanity Fair, it's annual Green issue.
Dressed in one of those black studded lingerie-leotard outfits that she introduced to the world stage (thanks?), she seems to be protecting a giant colorless globe behind her. ... or maybe just inviting us to, ahem, appear in her next, um, video. At least, she's trying to throw her arms around the world. Maybe.
It's an odd photo.
Madonna might seem an odd choice for the cover, too. She has supported preservation of the world's rain forests, and she did contribute to Live Earth, Al Gore's seven-continent extravaganza to bring attention to the climate crisis. Other than that, she hasn't been a notable swimmer, amid a warming ocean full of celebrity do-gooders. (Leonardo DiCaprio and Knut the polar bear, on last year's cover, were obvious and earnest choices.)
Maybe the point is that it's time to sex green up, or that it's already been sexed up.
We'll just have to wait and see why the Material Girl deserves the headline "Unbowed, uncowed and still taking on the world." (Is it "taking on" or "protecting" the world what we want from in a green celebrity, anyway? Oh, nevermind.)
