No, Year of the Tiger isn't an action movie (at least not yet) but Leonardo DiCaprio did play a starring role in Year of the Tiger, WWF's global campaign to raise awareness about the dwindling populations of tigers in the wild. The effort, helped along by a $1 million donation from the actor's own foundation, raised $10 million and helped convince the leaders of 13 nations to commit to doubling the population of tigers by 2022. Considering tiger populations have dropped 97% in the last century, and barely 3,000 remain, that goal is an important statement that the status quo is not acceptable.
For DiCaprio, it was only the latest step in a lifetime of environmental action. He's one of the greenest celebrities around. (In this shot, he's setting a camera trap that will record images of passing tigers so scientists can better understand their movements ... and how to protect them.)
