A California state investigation has found one third of jewelry items marketed at children have excessive levels of lead that violate the state's new limits on such products, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
While the results are specific to California, there's no reason to expect results would be dramatically different in other parts of the country. Consumers groups have long challenged the government to crack down on lead in jewelry, but only the rash of toys and other children's products found with excessive lead this year has inspired that kind of crackdown.
For a list of those products that had the highest lead levels, see this California government list.
