It's a guiding principle of The Daily Green's philosophy that if you give people the chance to make the right choice, they will. Kmart and Wal-Mart are taking that message to heart with a new partnership with Green Source, a supplier of organic cotton, bamboo, soy and other renewable and sustainable fabrics.

The news comes to us via Greenbiz.com, which says both discount retailers will add T-shirts, jeans and other apparel from sustainable materials to their private label lines, Faded Glory (Wal-Mart) and Route 66 (Kmart).

Giving mainstream consumers the choice of a sustainable fabric for a staple product like jeans is a great step. Particularly at a time when economic troubles are driving more people to discount retailers, it's great to see that they'll find a few green options on the racks.
