Vacuum the Way to Cleaner Air

Indoor Air Quality Can Be More Hazardous Than Air Outside

Between dust and off-gassing chemicals from the new furniture, the air inside the home can sometimes be as bad — or worse — than the air outside the home. One of the best way to cut down on such airborne contaminants, as well as pet fluff, is a vacuum. (Another way: Open the window to improve ventilation).

Not just any vacuum will do, of course. Look for one with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. According to the Toronto Star, the Bosch Formula Electro Duo Plus ($600) and the Hoover Wind Tunnel ($250) both do nicely. And even if they don’t entirely clean the air, they will certainly do a fine job of cleaning the carpet.
