2009 Heart of Green Awards Gallery

The 2009 Heart of Green Awards gallery showcased eBay "new to you" items, in displays that were 100% reusable. Designed by Matthew David Hopkins and Laurie Stolowitz of 360 Design Events, the displays were made of hollow doors that were later used by Rebuilding Together New York City to renovate low-income homes; the fabric was used by artists associated with Material for the Arts; and the flowers were later displayed at hospitals and hospice care centers with the help of The Flower Power Foundation. The carbon footprint of the event was offset by Conservation International.

Greg Perry, 2009 Local Hero

Greg Perry, the 2009 Local Hero, inspired an audience of 200 at the Heart of Green Awards ceremony in New York City. His his acceptance speech brought the crowd to its feet. (Watch it!) A high school teacher in Ohio, he not only inspired his marketing class to create the largest green products expo in Ohio, and not only used the proceeds to build the model Ultimate Green Classroom, but he did much of it while battling cancer. A year later, he's doing great, and ready to bestow the Local Hero honor on another deserving individual.
