Big Organic Grows Bigger, Overseas

Hain Celestial Group Inc. is already the largest manufacturer of organic groceries, having made a flurry of acquisitions in the past year or so. Now, it will be serving prepared foods to Buckingham Palace, following its purchase, for an undisclosed price, of London-based Daily Bread Ltd., according to Newsday.

Other recent acquisitions include MaraNatha and SunSprire, which make nut butters; TenderCare International, which distributes natural diapers; and WhiteWave Foods, which makes tofu and other faux-meat foods.

Typically, the old brands are retained, so customers won't necessarily notice a difference. Behind the scenes, though, the organic food industry is becoming more and more consolidated.
