Before you think we're insensitive jerks, let's say it: the BP Gulf Oil Spill is serious stuff. We've seen the pictures and videos of the spill, we know how many lives have been lost, how many jobs will be affected and how many birds and other marine animals are in danger. But, like so many tragedies before this one, Americans use humor to get over their sadness and anger. So, let's take a moment to laugh at some of the more humorous reactions to the spill.

A moving tribute to Avatar inspired by R. Kelly and sung by Aziz Ansari at the MTV Movie Awards. He sings, "It's a bummer when nature gets destroyed by greed, which reminds me, one more thing: F--k you, BP."
BP Execs are harder to hate when they are played by kittens.
"It's a small spill on a very large table." Or is it?
The fake twitter account BPGlobalPR has 140 character (or less) gems such as: "In the metric system "barrels" are called "rugamuffins." So 60,000 rugamuffins a day...pretty adorable, huh? #bpcares"

She'll be haunting the dreams of BP execs for years to come
