The Going Green Film Festival is seeking entries for its first-ever showcase of environmentally conscious films and environmentally friendly filmmaking techniques. The submission deadline (extended a couple times already) is Jan. 30 and there's a $10 discount for submitting your film before the deadline. (Enter "partners" at checkout.)
The winner of the Ecotainment Award, to be given out at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, will win $2,000 from Chipotle Mexican Grill.
With the motto "REthink, REplenish, REcommit," the Going Green Film Festival is organized by, and will benefit, the Minorities in Broadcast Training Program, a nonprofit group that aims to boost the careers of student journalists. The Daily Green is a supporter, along with Fuji Film, 3Degrees Inc. and Google Grants.
"We've launched the industry's first all-green film festival to reward filmmakers who are promoting ways of producing film using alternative materials and environmentally friendly practices, both in the office and on set," said Patrice Williams, founder of both the group and the festival.
A film must meet one of three criteria to be considered: It must deal with an environmental theme, employ environmentally friendly filming techniques or feature an alternative vehicle. Twenty dollars of every entry fee ($45-$65) goes toward the purchase of renewable energy credits.
In addition to the $2,000 from Chipotle, prizes will include hybrid bikes, trees and prizes from Fuji Film, Movie Magic Suite Software, Showbiz Software, Super 8 Production Facilities.
