GM will convert half its factories into zero-waste facilities that would recycle all leftover metal and even find ways to keep workers' lunches out of landfills, according to The Christian Science Monitor.
The American car-marking giant has a head start on its bold plan, having created 10 already. Like Wal-Mart, which has led similar efforts by requiring waste reductions from its suppliers, GM and other companies see that this aspect of going green is very good business. Money saved on waste is money earned.
It's a welcome trend, and one we can expect to continue in 2008 and beyond.
