Honda FCX Clarity

Honor: Green Car of the Year, winner
Cost: $600/month
Fuel Economy: 72 mpg (equivalent)

It runs on hydrogen, it produces no pollution. But it's only available to a select few in Southern California, where there are refueling stations.

Volkswagen Golf

Honor: World Car of the Year, winner
Cost: $36,500
Fuel Economy: 44 mpg (estimated, for GTD diesel version)

Not available yet in the U.S., look for the latest iteration of the Golf this fall.

The Fiat 500

Honor: Green Car of the Year, finalist
Cost: Approx. $14,500
Fuel Economy: 36-56 mpg (depending on model)

Not available yet in the U.S., the expected merger of Chrysler and Fiat should bring this minicar to showrooms across the country by 2011.

Ford Fiesta

Honor: World Car of the Year, finalist
Cost: Approx. $14,500
Fuel Economy: Approx. 30 mpg

Scion iQ (Toyota)

Fuel Economy: 54 mpg

It's still an open question whether U.S. car buyers will join those in Europe and Japan enjoying this new microcar.
