Flammable Foam in Vegas Fire Also Environmentally Unfriendly

Foam Acted as Tinder But Also Pollution Source

Highly flammable construction foam helped spread the rooftop fire on the Monte Carlo casino in Las Vegas, according to Associated Press news reports. In addition to acting as tinder by melting and dripping onto flammable areas below, the burning foam released a stew of noxious chemicals.

Such foam is critical to architectural efforts to incorporate fanciful elements, like the Monte Carlo's facade, but neither its manufacture or ultimate disposal is environmentally friendly. And it is not fire safe either.
