Former President Bill Clinton and Wal-Mart announced an initiative to use its immense power with suppliers to get cheaper green products to cities around the world.
The Clinton Climate Initiative, according to the L.A. Times, will also start a purchasing consotrium to the 1,100 cities in the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The announcement came at a meeting of U.S. mayors in Seattle discussing climate change. Today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an Independent and dark-horse presidential favorite of some pundits (he's not campaigning), will speak to the group about New York's ambitious sustainability agenda. He's expected to call for a national carbon tax, according to the New York Times.
The whole episode shows again how cities, states and businesses are leading the way on global warming initiatives, in the absence of leadership from the federal government.
