Climate Security Act Would Cut Greenhouse Gas Pollution 70%

The Senate will consider the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act next week. The act would set up a cap-and-trade regulation on major polluters with the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 70% below 2005 levels by 2050.

It's the kind of regulation, though with different targets, that all the major party presidential candidates have discussed, and which President Bush vociferously opposes. The New York Times recently editorialized on the subject, stating that the senators vying for the White House would do well to be on the floor for the debate, and the vote.

Certainly it's time, or well past time, for leadership on the issue of global warming.

The Environmental Defense Action Fund has released these advertisements, which it hopes will help inspire people to urge their senators to vote in favor of the legislation:
