China's Worst Winter in 100 Years

Year of the Rat Has Unlucky Beginning

It's been a century since a winter has produced this much snow in parts of China, according to anonymous meteorologists quoted by the German Press Agency. In other parts of China, it has been at least the worst snow in decades.

The snow has stranded millions of people traveling for New Year celebrations, and power was knocked out in many places.

The Year of the Rat, then, is off to an ominous start. Though the rat is considered lucky, and a sign of wealth, the expensive damage from the storms is anything but lucky.
