As of the latest reports, the California wildfire that has forced 1,000 people from their homes near Los Angeles remains just 30% contained.

It is one of more than a half dozen fires burning nearly 33,000 acres across the nation, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. The California fire, which started over the weekend, is not included in the tally.

Meanwhile, the 1,100-acre fire in Grayling, Michigan, which damaged six homes, has been contained.

Across the nation, the 1.3 million acres burned to date this year is 64.5% more than the 10-year average. The National Weather Service predicts weather conditions are likely to lead to fire in several parts of the United State today, including parts of Florida and Alabama; parts of Arizona, Nevada and Utah; parts of Texas and Oklahoma, and part of Montana.
