California is keeping its eye on the prize. In an effort to reach its weight loss goal dropping statewide carbon emissions by 25% by 2020 California is moving into phase two of the Golden State Diet Plan.
Starting this week, proponents of statewide renewable energy plans may begin collecting signatures for the Solar and Clean Energy Initiative, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
The initiative would require all utility companies within California to draw 20% of their power from renewable sources. Proponents hope to increase the percentage to 40% by 2020 and an impressive and unprecedented 50% by 2025.
The U.S. Senate didn't have the stomach for a national renewable energy portfolio, but California voters are showing that the power of the people is a powerful alternative energy source.
