Britney Spears is giving the clothes off her back for the environment.

Six items of the outfit she wore during her recent cameo on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" are up for auction through the end of March. The proceeds will benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council, one of the nation's biggest environmental groups.

The acting gig is already seen as a bid to restore a sense of normalcy to Britney's public persona. Whether the auction is a stunt aimed at a "green halo" or comes from the heart doesn't matter too much.

A day after bidding opened, bids for her wardrobe totaled $2,560.20, with the biggest-ticket item a Nanette Lepore Embroidered Rust Dress for $900. Someone evidently still wants a piece of her.
