Flooding in Britain this summer cost $6.2 billion, making 2007 the most expensive year for natural disasters, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Britain and Europe aren't the only regions facing excessive costs in both dollars and lives from severe flooding this year. Monsoons were especially strong, and deadly, in India, Pakistan and neighboring countries; Bangladesh and Vietnam saw repeated flooding events; and Papua New Guinea is still recovering from excessive rainfall after tropical storm Guba. Just to name a few.
The United Nations has warned that flooding damage will increase dramatically in the coming years as global warming causes both sea level rise and more intense bursts of rainfall.
