Brad Pitt is building 150 sustainable green and affordable homes in the lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.
He unveiled the details Monday, according to USA Today, and pledged to match $5 million in donations to his Make It Right foundation with money from his own pocket. The money will go to building materials and labor (though the architectural plans were donated), as well as a subsidy so low-income residents can buy in without paying any more than 30% of their salaries.
Pitt is responsible for the first building project in the neighborhood since Hurricane Katrina virtually wiped it off the map, destroying thousands of homes. He worked with a separate organization, Global Green USA, on that project.
