This March 29th, many urban dwellers will share the rare ability to see the constellations from their apartment and townhouse rooftops, thanks to Lights Out America. Usually obscured by thousands of street lamps and the glow of tightly packed buildings, stars will shine bright through city skies in a universal petition for climate action. People will make a simple but profound statement, by turning off their lights.
Frustrated by watered-down targets coming out of Balis U.N. global warming conference, several cities Chicago, Auckland, Tel Aviv, Copenhagen, Manila, Suva and Sydney among them are making plans to demand stricter climate change legislation. The participating cities have already agreed to engage in a synchronized blackout during "Earth Hour" from 8-9 p.m. (ET).
Though just one hour of darkness won't make much of a dent in the atmospheres CO2 collection, the blackout will undoubtedly draw attention to action.
Stay tuned as the Daily Green covers the Earth Hour Blackout.
