Beef from the Montclair Meat Company of Montclair, Calif., has been recalled due to possible E. Coli bacteria contamination. Approximately 53,000 pounds of ground beef are being recalled from wholesalers, restaurants and institutions in the Los Angeles, Calif., area.

The products subject to recall include:
* Various pound packages of "MONTCLAIR MEAT CO. GROUND BEEF"
* Various pound packages of "MONTCLAIR MEAT CO. ALL BEEF PATTIES"

According to the USDA, the contaminated products bears the establishment number "Est. 6116" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

E. coli can cause stomach illness or even death in serious cases. It can contaminate ground beef if fecal matter or other contaminated meat is mixed in during the meat slaughter or packing operations. It can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, seniors and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

Thus far, no illnesses have been reported in association with the tainted beef.
