Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman and Virginia Sen. John W. Warners climate change legislation is attracting mixed reviews from environmentalists, liberal groups, political pundits, and industry lobbyists alike, according to the Christian Science Monitor.
Directly challenging the Bush administrations voluntary cuts, Lieberman and Warners America's Climate Security Act would mandate caps on greenhouse emissions from the electric power, transportation, and manufacturing industriesabout 75 percent of the US economy.
While the Environmental Protection Agency lauded the bill, other environmental and liberal groups call the bill lenient. Industry sources, however, worry about the bills economic effects. Despite mixed reviews, all critics seemed to applaud Lieberman and Warners efforts to jumpstart meaningful congressional debate on the issue.
