Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman and Virginia Sen. John W. Warner’s climate change legislation is attracting mixed reviews from environmentalists, liberal groups, political pundits, and industry lobbyists alike, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

Directly challenging the Bush administration’s voluntary cuts, Lieberman and Warner’s America's Climate Security Act would mandate caps on greenhouse emissions from the electric power, transportation, and manufacturing industries—about 75 percent of the US economy.

While the Environmental Protection Agency lauded the bill, other environmental and liberal groups call the bill “lenient.” Industry sources, however, worry about the bill’s economic effects. Despite mixed reviews, all critics seemed to applaud Lieberman and Warner’s efforts to jumpstart meaningful congressional debate on the issue.
