Imported food arriving in the United States routinely tests positive for toxic substances, but the FDA only learns about good tests, not bad, according to a USA Today report.
And none of the reform bills proposed by Congress in response to a slew of recalls in the past year suggest closing this loop hole, which can allow unscrupulous importers to take their bad imports to another lab in hopes of getting a positive result.
There's no evidence that's happening, but the loophole is big enough to drive a truck full of toxic food through.
