Homes continued to be lost to the spread of wildfires, as the hot, dry Santa Ana winds continued to whip up flames in Southern California from Malibu to San Diego.

More than a dozen wildfires were burning, according to the Associated Press, and firefighters were overwhelmed by the task of trying to extinguish them.

"We have more houses burning than we have people and engine companies to fight them," San Diego Fire Captain Lisa Blake told the AP. "A lot of people are going to lose their homes today."

Evacuations topped 250,000.
