By Dan Shapley

The publishers of Consumer Reports, Consumers Union, launched a new Website today, www.NotInMyCart.org as a resource to help consumers avoid buying tainted products.

A rash of scandals involving food tainted with industrial products, toys laced with lead paint and other hazardous products have resulted in a number of recalls and scares in recent months. Many of the recalls involved products manufactured in China. The value of all imports increased by 67% between 2000 and 2006, and today 80% of all toys sold in the United States are imported from China. Of all the food we consume, 13% is imported, and 83% of the seafood is imported, yet less than 1% inspected.

The site combines recall notices from the three federal agencies that oversee food and product recalls, as well as recommendations from the organization and information about the organization's stance on legislation being considered by Congress.
