The League of Conservation Voters named the first two politicians to its annual list of the "Dirty Dozen": Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) and Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI).
The "Dirty Dozen" are chosen based on voting against laws that LCV supports. In particular, LCV says these two lawmakers have voted against measures that would have supported clean energy research and development, and put the brakes on global warming.
Sen. Inhofe, Ranking Member and Former Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has scored just 5 out of 100 in his career in the senate, on the LCV's score. He famously called global warming "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," and has vowed to filibuster climate legislation to prevent a vote. LCV says he has received more than $636,000 from energy companies.
Representative Knollenberg has a lifetime LCV score of 7 out of 100, having stood in the way of federal agencies that would have staunched greenhouse gas emissions, and voted against the increased use of renewable fuels. He has received more than $642,000 from energy companies, according to LCV.
