Is the oddly warm October weather responsible for the deaths of two marathon runners on an unseasonable October Sunday afternoon?

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the 30-year old LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon had to be suspended mid-race today due to unusually hot temperatures. One victim died in the middle of the Chicago race, a 35-year old male from Michigan. 300 plus were said to have been treated in area hospitals. Officials claim the hot weather made running the race past the mid-way point too dangerous for participants.

Over on the Atlantic Seaboard, in Fairfax, Virginia, over the border from Washington, DC, another runner died in the middle of the annual Army 10K foot race. According to local WTOP news, no cause has been found for this death. Race officials state that the victim was a civilian, not a member of the military.

Temperatures in DC on Sunday topped out in the high 80s. Similar temperatures were recorded in Chicago during race time.
