The Chicago Sun-Times as well as The Chicago Tribune are reporting that the officials at the annual LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon prematurely stopped the historic race due to concerns about the health of the runners. The thermometer in Chicago topped 88 degrees, the hottest weather ever recorded for the marathon, which has been a Chicago tradition for 30 years. Officials closed the course three and a half hours after the start.

The victim is reported to be a 35 year-old male from Michigan.

Chicago Sun Times also reports that "paramedics have transported "a couple hundred people" from multiple locations along the course, but specifics were not available." The Chicago Tribune puts that number at 302 at 4:30, stating that these victims were sent to local hospitals.
