A Web site founded by a group in Pennsylvania was recognized by the United Nations for "outstanding work raising awareness about ozone depletion and the global effort to address it."

The Ozone Hole -- www.theozonehole.com -- Charles Welch, Executive Director, accepted the award from Marco Gonzalez, Executive Secretary, Ozone Secretariat and Achim Steiner, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme at the opening ceremony last week, which was attended by representatives from 191 nations.

The Montreal Protocol was a successful international agreement that has cut emissions of chemicals that deplete the ozone layer, the protective stratospheric layer that shields the earth from ultraviolet light. The Ozone Hole Web site has a variety of written and graphical information about various topics related to the ozone layer, groundlevel ozone pollution and the international effort to stop the depletion of the ozone layer.
