Here is the text of a voluntary recall announced yesterday:

Mom Enterprises, Inc., also known as Bliss by Mom, is voluntarily recalling their Apple Flavored Baby's Bliss Gripewater, coded 26952V 10/08 (expiration date October 2008), as it may be contaminated with Cryptosporidium, a parasite that may cause intestinal infections. Apple Flavored Baby's Bliss Gripewater was distributed nationally via retail stores and was available worldwide via the internet. The product is sold in a 4 ounce plastic bottle packaged inside of a cardboard carton which carries the Baby's Bliss Logo and the product name Gripewater Apple Flavor.

Approximately 17,600 units were sold between the dates of November 2006 and September 2007. One instance of illness has been reported in Minneapolis, MN (August 2007). The most common symptom is watery diarrhea, however, other symptoms may include dehydration, weight loss, stomach cramps or pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. Symptoms typically begin two - ten days after infection and generally last one - two weeks. While most people with healthy immune systems will recover without treatment, the infection could be serious or life-threatening for certain individuals. Infants, children and pregnant women are susceptible to dehydration, which can be life-threatening, resulting from diarrhea.

Individuals with weakened immune systems are also at risk for a more serious and life-threatening form of illness. Individuals who have recently consumed Baby's Bliss Apple Gripewater, and if they have these symptoms, should seek medical attention. The voluntary recall was initiated immediately after the FDA reported finding Cryptosporidium in the Apple Flavored Baby's Bliss Gripewater. The only product affected by this recall is the Apple Flavor Baby's Bliss Gripewater. The company is offering full refunds on Apple Flavored Baby's Bliss Gripewater. Affected consumers should contact the Customer Service Department at 1-877-457-4955.

Consumers in possession of the recalled product should immediately discontinue use and dispose of the product. Roshan Kaderali, CEO of Mom Enterprises, Inc. said, "We take this matter very seriously and there is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our customers. We want to assure all consumers that Mom Enterprises, Inc. has solid policies and procedures in place to ensure that our high quality and top standards are being met."
