Global Warming Could Trigger Volcanic Eruptions

Climate Change and the Apocalyptic Chain Reaction

Share

By Dan Shapley

File this one under Yikes! Global warming is melting glaciers and ice sheets in Greenland, and the fast-flowing glaciers that scrape along, dropping gigantic chunks of ice that fall crashing to the Earth, can trigger earthquakes. Not only that, but the seismic activity could increase with sea-level rise, scientists say, according to ABC Premium News.

The increased pressure on the earth's crust could trigger more volcanic eruptions. Melting glaciers. Earthquakes. Volcanoes. How likely is this? That remains to be seen, but even the prospect of such a apocalyptic chain reaction is scary.
