Hurricane Humberto No More

Now a Tropical Storm, Humberto Continues to Rain On Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas

Hurricane Humberto is done with the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, but Tropical Storm Humberto is producing damaging winds and heavy rains through Louisiana and into Mississippi and Arkansas, according to the latest National Hurricane Center update.

The storm lost strength as it crossed over land, but still has the potential to rain down 4-8 inches, and as much as 12 inches in isolated areas. Tornadoes are possible, along with less intense but still damaging winds of 65 mph, with stronger gusts. Water Vapor Image NOAA

Humberto is expected to retain tropical storm strength until early Friday. At 11 a.m. EDT Tropical Storm Humberto was about 75 miles west-northwest of Lafayette, Louisiana, and moving northeast at about 12 mph. This is the third hurricane of the season, and the eight named storm. The latest federral forecast calls for:

  • 13-16 named storms
  • 7-9 hurricanes
  • 3-5 major hurricanes, rated Category 3 or higher
