Ingrid Rising? Tropical Depression Strengthening

Atlantic Storm Could Grow Into Ninth Named Storm of the Season

A tropical depression some 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles could grow into a tropical storm today, according to the National Hurricane Center. It would be the ninth named storm, and its name would be Tropical Storm Ingrid. Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto grew into a Category 1 before making landfall in Texas this morning.

The latest federal forecast calls for:

  • 13-16 named storms
  • 7-9 hurricanes
  • 3-5 major hurricanes, rated Category 3 or higher
