National Hurricane Center forecasters have upgraded a fast-growing storm in the Atlantic Ocean. The storm has already progressed from an area of low pressure into a tropical depression in the space of a few hours, and forecasters say it shows signs of increasing strength.
It could become a tropical storm -- the ninth named storm of the season -- later today or tonight. If so, it would be named Ingrid. About 1 p.m., the storm was roughly 1,100 miles west of the Lesser Antilles, a string of islands on the eastern fringes of the Caribbean.
