By Dan Shapley

Typhoon Fitow made a direct hit on Tokyo yesterday, killing one and leaving others missing. The city is assessing damages.

Fortunately, the storm was not as strong as those Category 5 monsters Hurricanes Dean and Felix that formed in the Atlantic this season and struck relatively sparsely populated areas of Mexico and Nicaragua.

They were powerful enough, even in relatively remote areas of landfall, to cause dozens of deaths.
