Eco-Friendly Pet Accessories: A $1 Billion Industry

Folks Want Fido and Fluffy to Go Green Too, for the Health of the Pets and the Environment

What would the Dog Whisperer say? As American pets increasingly take on a role roughly equivalent to grandchildren, owners increasingly want to give their Fluffy and Fido the same green lifestyle they enjoy themselves.

That is fueling an industry in sustainable green pet products that could reach a size of $1 billion by 2009, according to Packaged Facts, as quoted in today's San Bernardino County Sun.

Recent massive pet food recalls have led to a ballooning in the number of pet owners who cooked their own food, or who at least sought responsibly produced foods more diligently.

Who wants to feed their pets food tainted with industrial chemicals when alternatives are readily available? While the Dog Whisperer might say we're coddling, all those organic whole grain biscuits and recycled dog tags make a difference. Anytime consumers choose a greener alternative to a product they would have bought anyway, it's a small step in the direction of sustainability.
