Oil traders already increased the price of oil late last week, and Hurricane Dean's expected track through the Gulf of Mexico in the coming days is not giving many comfort.
If the storm hits the Yucatan Peninsula and then tracks back through the Gulf of Mexico, it could gain strength in the warm waters, and pass important oil production rigs.
If those rigs are damaged, or shipments delayed, the supply to U.S. market could drop enough that a spike in prices will follow.
