Hurricane Dean Approaching

The Category 2 Storm Is Strengthening After Passing First Islands In Path

Hurricane Dean has passed the Lesser Antilles and is strengthening, according to the latest report from the National Hurricane Center.

The Category 2 is expected to transform into a major hurricane of Category 3 strength as it passes through the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Here is a list of islands threatened by the storm, the first Atlantic Hurricane of the season:

  • St. Lucia
  • Martinique
  • British Virgin Islands
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Saba
  • St. Eustatius
  • Montserrat
  • Antigua
  • Nevis
  • St. Kitts
  • Barbuda
  • St. Maarten
  • Anguilla
  • Haiti's southwestern peninsula
  • Dominican Republic's south coast
  • Meanwhile in the Pacific, Typhoon Sepat packs 111 mph winds and was nearing Taiwan.
