The US Food and Drug Administration came out on Friday with a warning to consumers to avoid eating raw oysters harvested from the Hood Canal area of Washington State.
Oysters from that region have reportedly caused at least six people to become ill with vibriosis, which causes watery diarrhea, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting and chills.
Additional cases are being investigated by the states to which the oysters were distributed, which include California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, New York, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia (Canada).
More information on this warning is available on the FDA website.
