Wisconsin Lakes Drying Up

A Two-Year-Old Drought Takes A Heavy Toll In Parts Of State

A drought, which is stretching into its second year, is taking a heavy toll on the lakes of central and northern Wisconsin, where boating and tourism are important to the lifestyle and economy.

Many of Wisconsin's 15,000 lakes are fed by springs, and they are the worst-hit.

The drought in Wisconsin is part of a larger area of severe drought in the region, and it is only one of several drought-plagued regions in the United States.
