Largest Organic Supplier To Add Baby Line

Hain Celestial Group Is Growing Fast, Having Added Dairy And Meat Alternatives Recently

Hain Celestial Group Inc. will spend $3.4 million to buy TenderCare International Inc. and add its line of diapers and baby wipes to its fast-growing lineup of products. Hain has been described as the nation's largest maker of organic groceries.

In May it bought WhiteWave, the maker of TofuTown tofu and other mock-meat products, and that purchase followed close on the heels of others that expanded the company's non-dairy and meat-free product lines. As organic products grow more popular and producers consolidate, two things happen: the demand for organically farmed produce grows, which reduces the amount of chemical fertilizers and pesticides sprayed, and the die-hard organic fans fret over the industrial scale of the industry. In other words, the sustainability debate over small and local versus big and organic rages on.
